"Our wonderful place by Lake Siljan," it says on the website www.bjorkafabodar.se
Björka was originally a farmstead and earlier there were actually plans to establish a permanent population here. Today they have succeeded because there are no fewer than 7 permanently living households in Björka, which includes Svenbacken, Kansberg, Björka along the road and Björkskippus by the shore of Siljan. The number of properties amounts to about 100. A mix of old gray log cabins and new houses.

A nice mix of Soldfok and cottage owners from, for example, Borlänge, Ekerö etc. “We have a good cohesion and the turnout on our three working days per year is superb,” says Jan Westberg, who is the chairman of the Fäbodlaget. Jan lives in Sundbyberg, has had a house in the fäboden for generations and would like to become a permanent resident when work allows.

“The members are committed, which is necessary because we always have many projects going on,” Jan continues. “Down by the harbor, the slogboden, sauna, jetty and pier now welcome everyone to swim, boat and activities. The goal is to make the area handicap-friendly and we will soon be there. We also take care of the “playa” at Stamnäs. It is a popular place to enjoy the sunset. “Björkalys” is a popular tradition where we light lanterns and marshals at Siljan’s beach. We raise the Maypole on Komidsommar, 2 weeks after Midsummer.”

To increase the enjoyment, it is important for the fäbod team to convey tradition and knowledge from the past to future generations. “Our own almanac is an important information channel and of course we have the website, which is always updated,” concludes Jan.

In addition to Jan, the board consists of Gun-Britt Persson treasurer, Monica Stackeryd secretary, and Magnus Gelinder, Carina Jugen-Fröjd, Göran Lager, Anders Nygren, Johan Rombin and Rune Sjögren. Deputies are Maria Brodin-Holm and Charlie Nilsson.
