Sollerön's Vikings are in the spotlight this summer. The traffic of hikers on the Vikingaslingan is higher than normal and the survey with ground radar has been completed. (Analyses are ongoing and a result is expected later this fall.)
Astrid Gustafsson was awarded the Mora Municipality Culture Prize 2020 for her many years of research and documentation about the Vikings on Sollerön. Knowing more about how our ancestors lived and what they did is a cultural heritage that has great value for future generations.
Last Friday (26 Aug.) a film was therefore made with Astrid on the Viking Trail in Klikten. During the walk, Astrid spoke passionately about what happened on Sollerön over 1,000 years ago. Exciting finds have been made that show that Sollerön's Vikings engaged in international trade. We know some things. Some we can only guess at. The film material will be used in several ways. Partly at the Local History Museum, partly in marketing the parish. It should also be interesting and fun for the schoolchildren in the municipality to see and learn more about the Vikings who were the local residents of the time.
