After a year's absence, golf lovers will be able to play golf on Sollerön again.
“If the weather permits, the premiere will take place on May 1st,” says greenkeeper Mårten Mattsson.
When Solleröbladet visits the golf course, there is a feverish activity preparing the course. Bunkers are being raked on the former hole 18, which will now become hole no. 9. “It will be a 9-hole course but there are several tees on each hole so you can try hitting from different distances,” says Mårten.
It is undeniably a smart and well-thought-out arrangement that the new club Solöns GK presents. “In the first year, we will not have any employees. We are collaborating with the restaurant Jugen Jon,” says chairman Anna Magnusson. “Jugen Jon will function as our clubhouse. There is already coffee, food and toilets there. We will have a corner where you can buy golf items, and you pay with Swish. At first, it will be ball pits, but eventually you will be able to book digitally.
Last summer was a real golf summer throughout Sweden. The number of club members increased by +33% in Sweden. We hope and believe that the trend will continue, given that golf is played outdoors and that it is easy to keep your distance. The interest is great, more and more people are discovering how fun it is to play golf. We are calculating with about 100 members, but of course we hope for more. (Solleröbladet tab in that people are thinking of becoming members.) We are opening a course that makes it easy for both young and old to practice golf as a sport. In this way, we contribute to an active physical and mental life and thus well-being in general from a social and cultural perspective.”
Solleröbladet notes that it is good for the entire parish that the golf course is reopening. There will be more overnight stays in cottages and at the Caravan Club. Increased sales in Koopen and this can contribute to increased jobs.
"We are also part of the BID project, the tourism industry group on Sollerön, where players in the tourism industry collaborate by, among other things, marketing each other," concludes an enthusiastic Anna Magnusson, who thinks that non-profit forces are fantastic!
