Microbreweries are springing up like mushrooms in Sweden. And so are the forests around Björka Fäbodar. In Svenbacken, Joakim Turesson and his childhood friend opened Björka Brygghus in the fall of 2016. The guys love beer and then came up with the idea to start brewing themselves. They took a brewing course and that's how it went.
Björka Brygghus primarily brews Ale-style beers but also experiments in the area of lagers. Today, the exciting range consists of 8 types of beer.
“We pump water from a 90 m deep well,” says Joakim. “And we definitely don’t skimp on the details. We have the best malt, plenty of hops and inspiring yeast strains. This means that our beers end up in the premium segment. Our customers are restaurants around Siljan that are known for their good food. And then our beers fit well into the concept. We are not afraid to take things a step further and spice up the beer with exciting flavours. For example, one of the beers has a flavour of fresh spruce shoots. Others have flavours of mango, citrus, grapefruit and passion fruit. We brew a batch of 100 litres at a time.”
Solleröbladet asks about marketing? “The word-of-mouth method,” answers Joakim, who also reveals a secret. “We are growing and are now four committed owners with plans to establish ourselves in larger premises as the hut has become too small. I can also reveal that we have just received the news that we have been given the go-ahead as a supplier to Systembolaget. Two of our beers will be available in the local range from June 1st,” concludes an enthusiastic Joakim Turesson.
