Flenberget is associated with countless legends and stories about deposits of copper and silver ore. The connection to the Falu Copper Mine is inevitable. When the big landslide happened in Falu Copper Mine in 1687

This led to extensive exploration in other parts of Dalarna to find alternative opportunities for continued mining of copper ore in the landscape. In the middle of the 18th century, copper mining probably began on Flenberget.

A visit to Flengruvan gives an overwhelming and magnificent impression. The large mine is located on the mountain's steep southern slope with a majestic view of forest, mountains and water. An exciting hike awaits.

Here on Flenberget's steep south slope is the Storgruvan. On the higher mountain plateau there are remains
Mellangruvan and Lillgruvan. According to legend, the copper ore deposit will be the brother castles for the Falu Copper Mine.
The breaking took place with the dressing method. Dry wood was stacked against the rock and ignited. The rock burst from the heat and could be broken or chopped off with sledgehammers. Water was also thrown on the hot mountain and the rapid
the temperature change cracked the masses. Lots of wood were cut on the rock so that it became bare.
The word "flen" just means called. During the quarry, a stone ravine arose which remains on the slope.

The mine opening is about 3–3.5 m and the mine extends 20–25 meters into the rock. The water depth is estimated to be 1–1.5 m
but it is said that the depth amounts to about 20 m in some places. There is no drainage so the whole mine is filled with water.

The ore was probably carried on stretchers down the precipice to the nearest carriageway where horse and carriage picked up and transported
the ore to smelting furnaces at Mångån and upstream of Mångsjön. A distance of about 4-5 km.

Mining, which began in the mid-18th century, was down for many years but resumed in the 1890s. In over
For 120 years, however, the mine has been quiet and deserted.
