Beautiful exterior with even more beautiful interior!
Dating back to the latter part of the 19th century (built 1886-1887), one of Sweden's most beautiful prayer houses stands here in Gesunda. Volunteer work and donated materials made the construction possible.
There was a revival trend through Sweden and the villagers were more interested in going to prayer meetings than going to dances. The timber for the planned dance floor was therefore rather used for the construction of a prayer house.
Interest in the revival waned over the years and in the 1930s the Bönhuset was threatened with demolition. The need for a village cottage was considered greater. Collected funds saved the situation and in 1965 a renovation of the Bönhuset was started. Pentecost 1972, the Prayer House was re-inaugurated. The interior is bright, clean and nice. Wide floorboards, hand-forged candlesticks, the silver crucifix and other objects testify to the skill and care of the craftsmen. The entire interior conveys a sense of peace and spirituality.
We are moving quickly until July 1, 2020. At that time, Mora parish donated Bönhuset to Gesunda Byförening. After taking over the management of the historic building, it was in need of renovation. Many villagers got involved. The house was colored red and by laying a new power line, the old belfry could once again be heard ringing in holiday meals on Saturdays at 18:00.
