Soon a new roof at Lärkastugan!

Originally, the cottage had a wooden roof. Old photos show that sometime in the 40s-50s, Karl Lärka himself changed to single-pitched clay tiles, which remained there until the early 90s when the roof was made of wood again. Now, that wooden roof has done its job and single-pitched clay tiles are coming back.

“It is a long-term investment, the tile roof will last for many years to come,” says Anneli Larsson at the Village Archives in Mora Municipality, which handles cultural heritage and cultural environment issues.

"Because Lärkastugan is a culturally historic building, a building conservation certified craftsman must carry out the job. And that is Johan Almberg from Rättvik, who is expected to be finished in 3 – 4 weeks. We will announce when the construction is complete."

It is not just the cottage that is getting a makeover. The garden is also undergoing restoration. An expert has been called in to prune the apple trees. “It was on our initiative that the project got started,” says Anneli and continues. “The University of Gothenburg has a project called “Knowledge that grows,” which is run from Mariestad. It includes how to take care of historic gardens. Together with the Carl Larsson farm and Stora Hyttnäs in Sundborn and an old farm garden in Nora, Lärkastugan is part of the project. Some of our apple trees are over a hundred years old,” says Anneli. “This is going to be very good,” says a happy Anneli Larsson.

We also plan to fell some birch trees down towards the fields so that the beautiful view towards Utanmyra becomes more visible. This work will take place in the winter of 2022.
