It has adorned the facade of the Parish House for several decades. The Parish Association uses the Parish Coat of Arms in its correspondence. It is now also featured on the newly designed Sollerö hat. You can be sure that you will see the Parish Coat of Arms appear in several ways in the coming years.
History tells us that there was great interest in parish coats of arms and parish flags in Dalarna during the 1940s. On the initiative of the Dal Regiment, all parishes were asked in 1943 if they were interested in creating their own parish coats of arms. Sollerön was also positive about the idea and the regulations regarding parish coats of arms and parish flags that would apply in the then Kopparberg County.
The work of creating the Sollerö Parish Coat of Arms began three years later by the artists Sven Hinders and Evald Håkansson, who together made 15 proposals.
One of these was selected. Drawing teacher Ruben Hellman in Falun, who had the necessary experience, then made the original suitable for reproduction. The parish coat of arms with a Viking ship and sun in yellow on a blue background (Siljan and sky) was approved in 1947 by the King.
Old writings reveal that since the end of the Middle Ages there was a parish emblem (bomärke) for Sollerö Parish. This mark was a boundary mark to mark the boundaries between the different parishes in Mora parish. This bomärke is used today by Sollerö Hembygdsförening but the bomärke is not part of the Sollerö Parish Coat of Arms. The bomärke is also part of the club badge for Sollerö IF. In the local history book Sool-Öen 2019, the history of the Parish Coat of Arms and the Bomärke is described by Torbjörn Nääs.
Graphic manual for the future
During the autumn of 2021, Torbjörn Nääs has compiled graphic guidelines for how the parish coat of arms may be used. The right to use the Sollerö Parish Coat of Arms here in the parish is held only by the Sollerö Parish Association and the Sollerö Local History Association. The visual elements – sun, Viking ship and the shape of the shield – may only be used in the manner described in the graphic guidelines.
With the graphic guidelines, rights holders receive a uniform, high-quality visual profile. The profile should be clear, functional, practical and durable. It should be instantly recognizable by the viewer.
Be proud of our beautiful Parish Coat of Arms!
