Thank you for making the survey possible!

We would like to extend a big thank you to all landowners, land users, Sollerö residents, donors and associations who made the ground-penetrating radar survey of the Viking burial ground on Sollerön a reality. The survey is now entering its next phase.

All data collected with magnetometers and ground penetrating radar will now be processed, analyzed and interpreted by archaeologists in both England and Sweden.

– The analysis of the investigations is currently underway in Sheffield, England. It is a multi-stage work with a very large amount of measurement data. The results from the first analysis of all the data must then be interpreted in further analyses. When we compare the measurement data against older maps and different types of ancient remains. Ancient remains and the picture of ancient remains look different in England than in Sweden. This is where the Swedish archaeologists come into the work to identify Swedish ancient remains in the form of graves, buildings and structures that could be related to cultic activity, says archaeologist Mathias Bäck.

We are eagerly awaiting the results, which we hope can provide more pieces of the puzzle of the importance Sollerön had in Iron Age society and how people lived here over 1,000 years ago.

The results of the survey will result in a report that is expected to be completed in the spring of 2023.
